Evolution of our programme
Stockport Council’s Digital by Design programme started in 2015. Phase 1, our ‘skateboard’ if we use the Agile metaphor, included putting in place new technical foundations, and building digital skills and practice into our daily working lives, as well as setting up a digital inclusion alliance that aims for Stockport residents to be 100% digitally included.
Phase 2 kicked off in 2018, building our ‘scooter’. We tested the rollout of transformation across our organisation, with projects in Children’s and Corporate Support Services, including a review of fostering services and Revs and Bens. We also signed the Local Digital Declaration, a public pledge to meet high standards for our technology and digital services and adopt digital culture and ways of working.
With the onset of the Covid-19 pandemic, we used our digital capabilities, skills and working practices to quickly develop new digital services and products to support both residents and businesses. This was accompanied by the vital work of the DigiKnow alliance, including the distribution of devices to residents to help them learn or stay connected.
Radically Digital Stockport is the next phase of this journey, where we build our ‘car’. It differs from the first two phases in that it is ‘Radical’ in the sense of being far-reaching or thorough. It’s a council-wide rollout of a transformation programme that will be woven into all our service directorates. What’s more, we are working outside our organisation, making it a borough-wide strategy.
Radically Digital Stockport programme gets underway
If you haven’t already done so, please read our Radically Digital Stockport strategy, which we’ve divided into three broad areas: Digital Communities, Digital Place and Digital Council. We would welcome your feedback.
Work is now starting across the nine workstreams of the programme and we look forward to updating you on our progress in each of these areas over the forthcoming year through this blog.
If you have a few minutes to spare, this short video sets out our vision.
